Game Report - May 31, 2008

MCC verses HPODC

Match details
MCC played its final 20-20 game for the third place spot vs HPODC today. It seemed like it was going to be a great day for MCC right from the start when all 11 players for MCC were at the field 20 minutes before the
game began.

After strategically losing the toss, MCC started its innings on a cloudy overcast day, but the HPODC bowlers did not take advantage of the conditions spraying the ball everywhere. After a couple of delightful strokes,
Nish found a ball that was too much to his liking and swatted it right down the throat at gully. After that little hiccup, the captain and vice-captain began a partnership that saw MCC coast to 100/1 in just under 11
overs. Zafar fell for under 50 for the first time in the tournament for a well made 35 of 30 balls with the score at 114. Shuaib, not deterred with losing Zafar, smacked 3 fours in a row to bring up his 50. After losing Shuaib
for 68 and with 6 wickets intact with less that 2 overs to go, MCC brought in the Aussie cannon, the silver fox, the President, Brett "The Keg" Windsor who hit the only 6 of the game and took 20 over last over. MCC ended
the innings for a mammoth 204 for 6 off 20 overs. Alok set a new MCC record being at the non-strikers crease for 10 balls and not facing even one ball.

With the facing a stiff target, HPODC batsmen had to go for their strokes. Nishant made the first breakthrough getting their opening bat to nick through to Brett. Then it was the turn to Paul to get a little help from the
batsman who tried to hoik him and ended up being "lbw". Nish then came on and with the sun glaring of the shiny scalp, broke through with crafty bowling and a little luck. By the time the 10 over had rolled by, MCC was in
the drivers seat and had bagged 5 wickets for 50 odd runs. With the tail coming up, the MCC captain looked to the former MCC opening bowler, Roshan to turn the clock back. With two wickets in his first over, it was all
over but the shouting. With Prashant, Neil and Alok finshing the remaining overs, HPODC ended their innings at 103 for 9.

Shuaib was declared the MOM and as a token of the appreciation for the club mom, Ellen got to take home the 3rd place trophy. Thank you to George "Shiny Red Shorts" Binoy, Khan+2, regional director Khalid and the
Chaddha family for turning up to cheer the team on. Edgefield was the site of the post game celebration with sights aplenty.

MCC's next game is in two weeks as the rigors of the regular season begin. Please stay tuned.
