won the toss and elected to field first on a slightly cooler day than
usual. Roberto and Paul shared the new ball and soon were able to find
nice line and length. Both the opening bowlers especially Roberto
troubled the opening Corvallis Crusaders batsman. Roberto bowled with
great pace, line and length and troubled the Corvallis batsmans
numerous times without any luck. With some luck on Corvallis side, they
were around 47/0 in 8 overs but that was about to change with the
introduction of our captain Shuaib and Chris. Shuaib bowled beautifully
and hardly gave anything as always and immideatly got 2 wickets in his
first over. Chris on the other end was bowling great and along with
Shuiab they reduced the scoring rate and by the end of 15overs
Corvallis were 63/4. That was about to change when Paresh came into
bowling and started leaking runs and conceding number of wides. Nish on
the other end was bowling well within himself. Following a suspect
injury forcing Phil the Kiwi to retire and allow Jana in to bat; Nish
and Corvallis
captain had a friendly :) confrontation on the field.
Nish ended with the last laugh and got his man with an outswinger with
Nishant taking the important
catch at point. Corvallis finished the innings with a competitive
target of 173runs in 30overs. Shuaib finished with 6-4-14 and Chris
with 6-1-18.
MCC began the innings with Zafar and Roshan and
soon the fireworks started from Zafar. Right from the beginning, Zafar
started to punish anything which was pitched up to him or bowled short.
Zafar particularly was severe on Corvallis captain hitting him for
multiple fours and sixes in his opening spell. The opening pair put on
61 in 5 overs before Roshan was caught at point. That wicket got Shuiab
in the middle and soon he was also able to see the ball really well.
Zafar continued the demolition of the Corvallis Crusaders bowlers with
Shuiab joining the act as well and playing some amazing cover drives.
Zafar and Shuiab accelerated the run rate even more by adding 92 in 7
overs before Shuiab got out. Zafar on the other end was on his zone and
finished with hitting 14 fours, 6 sixes and made 101runs in 42 balls.
In the end, MCC won by 7 wickets with 14 overs to spare thanks to some
good bowling by Shuiab, Chris, Roberto and Nish and by the batting
fireworks of Zafar.
After
the game players adjourned to Silver Birch club house to toast a
wonderful afternoons cricket, though since Zafar was on call and late
he had to rush off........
